April 15, 2010 —Local youth, Brian Garcia of New Laguna, was a winner of the cover art contest for the journal Pediatrics in Review. Every year the journal, Pediatrics in Review, holds a contest for youth to submit a design for the journal’s cover. The journal chooses a different winner for each issue, and 10-year-old Garcia was the winner for the March 2010 issue. His pediatrician, Dr. Charles Onyeama of Cibola Family Health Center, entered Garcia’s drawing into the contest.

The journal asked for submissions from the patients of pediatricians ages 5 to 16. Drawings were to be colorful and depict the child’s favorite thing to do, a future dream, or what they would like to be when they grow up. Garcia drew his favorite thing to do, play basketball. He illustrated himself playing the sport both with friends outside and also inside on his Wii.

Pediatrics in Review is a well-respected monthly pediatrics journal, available in print and online, featuring real-life cases, best practices, and review articles. The journal is circulated to pediatricians and health professionals across the country.
