Chief Executive Officer
Thomas Whelan, joined Cibola General Feb 2016 as the Chief Executive Officer.
Whelan, holds a bachelor's of arts from Lewis University in Illinois, and a Masters in Hospital Administration from St. Louis University in Missouri. He joined St. Francis Hospital in Illinois in 1985 as the Division Director of Support Services, and soon after had the opportunity to become Vice President of Clinical Services at St. Mary's Hospital also in Illinois. He directed daily operations of clinical services to include diagnostic, therapeutic, rehabilitation, home health and senior services.
Prior to his role with Cibola General Hospital, Whelan served as the CEO of Lodi Community Hospital for the last 17 years and President of Edwin Shaw Rehabilitation Institute and Director of the Orthopedic Service Line at Akron General Medical Center while serving as CEO in Lodi Ohio. He is a seasoned Chief Executive Officer with over 25 years of senior level experience, and has shown his success through traits of team-building, setting service excellence expectations and accountability. He successfully used collective experience to serve as team leader responsible for five successful outpatient therapy clinics throughout the greater Akron area and a chemical dependency program featuring a grant funded medically-assisted treatment clinic, a highlight of his many accomplishments while at Edwin Shaw Rehabilitation.
Whelan and his wife are excited to move close to family in the Southwest and really become a part of our community. Please help us in welcoming them not only our hospital but to our home town.
Interim Assistant Administrator & Chief Financial Officer
Ed Brown, CPA, MBA. Over thirty nine years' experience in financial management and accounting most of which in the healthcare sector.. Experience in Strategic Planning, Budgeting, Financial Analysis, Operations Management, Program Development, Personnel Supervision, Research and Development, and Customer Relations. Owner/Principal of EABFS, LLC for the last 11 years, he has been doing interim work in GA, LA MS, SC, WV, TX, and NM.
Maria Atencio, RN and Glenna Losito, RN
Co-Chief Nursing Officers
Maria Atencio and Glenna Losito became Co-Chief Clinical Officers of Cibola General in 2013. Maria and Glenna are both long-time members of the community each possesses over 30 years of nursing experience. Both are registered nurses with Bachelor's degrees. Glenna became a certified Family Nurse Practitioner a few years ago after studying at the St. Francis school in Albuquerque. Maria says, "When Glenna and I went to college we came back here for the summer and worked as Nurse's Aides at CGH. We then went back to college, finished our degrees at different places, and worked at different places, but ultimately both came back here. This is our home, so it's important to us. It's our community. Our families are here. We're taking care of our families."
Director of Human Resources
Marcie Chavez is the Director of Human Resources at Cibola General Hospital. She has spent the previous 6 years as the Director of Marketing and Community Relations for the hospital. Marcie has experience in employee relations, marketing, and public relations for hospitals, financial institutions, and energy corporations. She holds a Master of Business Administration degree in Organizational Behavior from the University of New Mexico and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from New Mexico State University. Marcie is a wife and mother of two young girls. In her spare time she teaches group fitness classes, and participates in her local Rotary and PEO chapters.
Practice Administrator at Cibola Family Health Center
Sunil Patel serves as the Practice Administrator at Cibola Family Health Center and brings with him nearly 30 years of experience in medical office administration.
Sunil is a long time resident of Grants since 1979, who graduated from Grants High School. He graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelors of Administration in Accounting. Upon his return to Grants he was the Assistant Chief Financial Officer for Cibola General Hospital from 1989 through 1991. , from there he went on to running Grants Medical Center for 24 years.
During his time at Cibola Family Health Center, he has served on several committees and is instrumental in transforming and growing the services our clinic provides to the community.
